Download The Wall Street Journal wordmark in EPS, PNG, and SVG formats for free — each file available as a separate download. This is the newspaper’s iconic nameplate, used in print and online since 1889.

The Wall Street Journal published its first issue on July 8, 1889, and its nameplate has changed very little since. The wordmark is set in a custom high-contrast serif based on Escrow, a typeface designed by Cyrus Highsmith for Font Bureau, with elongated letterforms and pronounced serifs that give it a stately, authoritative feel. The full name is set in uppercase, preceded by “THE,” and closed with a small dot at the end — a detail that reads almost like a period on a finished sentence.

The wordmark is rendered in solid black, with a white or black background version depending on the application. In digital contexts, particularly the WSJ app and smaller interfaces, the full nameplate is often shortened to a compact “WSJ” monogram, since the full wordmark doesn’t scale down well at small sizes.
