Wrangler traces back to 1904, when C.C. Hudson began making overalls in Greensboro, North Carolina, eventually growing the business into the Blue Bell Overall Company. The Wrangler name itself came from a 1943 acquisition of the Casey Jones Work-Clothes Company, and the first Wrangler-branded jeans, designed for rodeo cowboys, launched in 1946 with a looping, hand-lettered script logo still used today on the brand’s back-pocket patches.

The bold block-letter wordmark most associated with Wrangler today was introduced in the 1960s as a cleaner alternative to the original script. Despite frequently being described as a slab serif, the logo is actually a sans-serif design, closely resembling Rudolf Koch’s geometric ITC Kabel typeface — recognizable by its flat-topped “a” and the almost circular lower bowl of the “g.” The heavy, angular letterforms give the wordmark a rugged, no-nonsense feel that fits the brand’s western workwear roots.

The logo appears most often in red, matching the stitching on Wrangler’s classic denim, though black and white versions are used across packaging and digital applications. Wrangler’s international branding was redrawn in 2011, moving further from the original script while keeping the same bold, western-inspired spirit.
