Ubisoft introduced its current logo on May 31, 2017, updating the spiral symbol that had represented the company since 2003. The blue and purple three-dimensional swirl was replaced by a simpler monochrome mark with irregular, hand-drawn curves, accompanied by a redesigned Ubisoft wordmark.
The 2017 identity is credited to design agency Method, with Colophon Foundry developing the custom Ubisoft Sans typeface. Ubisoft describes the swirl as a window into the worlds it creates, while the deliberately hand-drawn character of both the spiral and the letter “O” was intended to give the global entertainment brand a more human quality.
The swirl itself dates to 2003, when Ubisoft was expanding into franchises such as Tom Clancy’s games and moving toward a more mature portfolio. Before that, the company used a colorful rainbow logo introduced around the launch of Rayman in the mid-1990s, making the minimalist 2017 mark the latest stage in a visual identity that has changed alongside the company’s evolution.
