The Supreme logo is one of the simplest and most recognizable identities in streetwear: a white italic wordmark placed inside a solid red rectangle. Commonly known as the Box Logo, it has remained at the center of Supreme’s identity since the brand emerged from New York’s skate scene in 1994.

The logo’s visual language was strongly influenced by American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, whose work frequently combines bold white Futura lettering with red blocks of color. Supreme adapted that confrontational graphic style into a commercial brand mark, creating an unusual connection between contemporary art, skate culture and fashion. The lettering is widely identified as Futura Heavy Oblique.

Supreme was founded by James Jebbia and opened its first store on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan in April 1994. The store was built around New York skate culture, with local skaters, artists and neighborhood figures forming its early staff and community. From that single location, Supreme developed into one of the most influential names in global streetwear.

Despite the brand’s growth, collaborations and changes in ownership, the Box Logo has avoided the repeated redesigns common to major fashion brands. Its red rectangle and white wordmark remain essentially the same visual signature more than three decades later, appearing on clothing, skate decks, accessories and some of Supreme’s most sought-after releases.
