The Spotify logo combines a circular icon containing three curved sound-wave lines with the Spotify wordmark. The symbol has evolved from the company’s earliest visual identity into a much simpler mark, while its distinctive green color has become one of Spotify’s strongest brand assets across the app, advertising, events and digital products.

Spotify significantly refreshed its visual identity in 2015, introducing a brighter signature green, a broader color system and a more expressive approach to imagery. The work, developed with COLLINS, helped transform Spotify from a primarily technology-focused product brand into a flexible identity built around music, artists and personalized listening.

In 2024, Spotify introduced Spotify Mix, a custom variable typeface created with Berlin-based Dinamo Typefaces and Spotify’s in-house Brand and Creative team. The new type system replaced Circular across the Spotify experience and also informed an updated wordmark, while the familiar circular three-wave icon remained intact. Spotify Mix continues to be a central part of the brand’s visual identity in 2026.

Spotify was founded in Stockholm in April 2006 by Daniel Ek and Martin Lorentzon and officially launched its music streaming service in 2008. Even the company name has an accidental origin: according to Spotify’s own history, “Spotify” emerged when a word was misheard during a brainstorming session, before becoming the name of one of the world’s largest audio streaming platforms.
