Shopify’s visual identity is built around its green shopping bag symbol, featuring a white “S,” paired with an italicized wordmark. The bag makes the brand’s connection to commerce immediately recognizable, while the icon can also be used independently in compact applications where the full wordmark would be difficult to read.

The familiar shopping bag identity has been associated with Shopify since its early growth and the current logo system was already established by 2015. The company has refined its wider visual language and product design over the years, but the core bag-and-wordmark combination has remained largely unchanged. No individual designer has been publicly credited for the current logo.

Shopify began with a snowboard store called Snowdevil, created by Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand and Scott Lake. After building their own ecommerce software to run the store, the founders realized the platform itself had greater potential and launched Shopify in 2006. The shopping bag symbol became a direct visual expression of that shift from selling products to providing the tools that help other merchants sell their own.
