The Red Bull logo features two red bulls charging toward each other in front of a yellow sun disc, paired with the distinctive Red Bull wordmark. The composition has remained remarkably consistent since the international energy drink was launched in 1987 and has become closely associated with energy, competition, speed and action.
The emblem has its roots in Krating Daeng, the Thai energy drink created by entrepreneur Chaleo Yoovidhya in the 1970s. “Krating” refers to the gaur, a large wild bovine native to South and Southeast Asia, while “Daeng” means red. The original Krating Daeng identity already featured two red gaurs facing each other against a sun-like disc, establishing the visual idea later carried into Red Bull.
Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz discovered functional drinks while travelling in Asia and partnered with Yoovidhya to develop Red Bull for an international market. Red Bull GmbH was founded in Austria in 1984, followed by nearly three years of work on the formula, positioning, packaging and marketing concept. Red Bull Energy Drink officially launched in Austria on April 1, 1987.
Unlike many global beverage brands, Red Bull has never radically simplified or replaced its central emblem. The charging bulls and yellow disc remain at the heart of the identity in 2026, appearing across cans, advertising, motorsport, football, extreme sports and the company’s wider media and event ecosystem.
