The New York Knicks’ current logo is based on the identity introduced in 1992, featuring bold three-dimensional Knicks lettering above a basketball and an inverted triangle. The design was created by lettering artist Michael Doret as part of an NBA Marketing project led by creative director Tom O’Grady. “New York” was added above the wordmark in 1995, while later updates simplified the shadows, trim and colors without changing the core design.
The latest adjustment came for the 2023–24 season, when the orange was lightened following other minor color changes the previous year. Despite these refinements, the basic 1992 logo has survived for more than three decades. Early concepts looked very different: Doret was originally asked to incorporate the Empire State Building and produced several versions featuring the landmark before the idea was dropped from the final design.
