The Milwaukee Bucks introduced their current logo on April 13, 2015, replacing the softer deer identity used since the 1990s with a sharper, forward-facing buck. The redesign was created by Doubleday & Cartwright in collaboration with Bucks ownership, team executives and the NBA, with Milwaukee native Justin Thomas Kay serving as the agency’s managing creative director.
The logo is packed with subtle details. The buck’s antlers expanded from eight to twelve points to suggest maturity and strength, while the negative space between them forms the shape of a basketball. The chest also creates a hidden “M” for Milwaukee, giving the animal itself a direct connection to the city.
The 2015 rebrand also replaced red with cream and blue alongside the team’s traditional green. Cream references the pale bricks that gave Milwaukee its “Cream City” nickname, while blue represents the Great Lakes. The result was an identity designed to connect the Bucks more closely with both Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
