Instagram replaced its previous script wordmark on August 13, 2026. The new lettering is heavier and more compact, with less of the loose flow seen in the 2016 version.

The redesign came out of a broader identity update developed by Instagram and Meta’s design teams. After testing very different directions, including uppercase lettering and more literal handwriting, the team returned to script and redrew it with a cleaner, more compact structure.

Instagram Director of Product Design Jasmine Probst described the new mark as bolder and simpler while retaining unexpected details that connect it to personal expression. The wider 2026 identity also introduces an updated Instagram Sans, the handwritten Instagram Pen and the monospaced Instagram Mono, while using the familiar Instagram gradient more subtly across layouts, motion and interface elements.

The change only applies to the wordmark. Instagram kept the gradient camera icon and began rolling out the new lettering worldwide in August 2026.
