Impact Font Download Free
Download Impact font for free in TTF format. This package includes the classic Impact style, a bold condensed sans-serif made for short, loud and attention-grabbing typography.
Impact has two very different identities today. Designers use it as a tight, heavy headline typeface. Internet users recognize it as the classic meme caption font, especially in white text with a black outline.

Monotype later acquired the design rights and licensed Impact to Microsoft for distribution with Windows through the 1980s and 90s. Microsoft also included it among the original “core fonts for the web” bundled with Windows 98, putting Impact on millions of computers by default. That decision helped make it a universally recognizable typeface long before the meme era.
Geoffrey Lee continued developing the design well into his later years. In 2002, he self-released an expanded version called Impact Wide, adding an italic style along with wider alternate forms for “J” and “r”. Those alternates appeared in the original 1965 metal type, although most later digitizations left them out. In 2010, type foundry Ascender Corp released Impact 2010 and added modern OpenType features to the classic design.
Impact’s cultural reach goes well beyond internet memes. Activision’s Call of Duty franchise used the typeface in its logo until 2023. Researchers have also examined its role in online culture, including a paper in the Journal of Visual Culture about Impact’s rise as what researchers call “the meme font.” If you’re choosing typography for a meme project, see our guide to the best meme fonts for modern alternatives alongside Impact.
