Gilda Display was designed in 2012 by Eduardo Tunni, born in Buenos Aires in 1963 and one of Argentina’s most established type designers. Tunni studied graphic design at the University of Buenos Aires, co-founded the type foundry Tipo, and taught for a decade in UBA’s Master of Type Design program. His fonts have been exhibited and awarded internationally, and he has drawn multilingual custom typefaces for magazines, newspapers, universities, and even countries. Gilda Display carries that pedigree: it’s a small, single-weight release, but every curve shows a professional’s hand.

Glamour with Reading Manners

The design is a modern, Didone-flavored serif with classic proportions and high stroke contrast — thick stems meeting fine hairlines. What sets it apart is how gently those transitions happen: instead of the abrupt thick-to-thin snap of a strict Bodoni, Gilda’s curves flow smoothly into the hairlines. As a result, the font reads as glamorous rather than severe. Tunni’s own description points at fashion, jewelry, and luxury goods, and that’s exactly where it excels. Unusually for a display Didone, though, the design is measured enough to survive in longer passages, holding a fine, even texture on the page where flashier rivals fall apart.

In practice, use it for editorial headlines, brand wordmarks, wedding and event stationery, packaging, and hero sections that want quiet elegance. Since it ships in a single weight with no italic, plan hierarchy through size and spacing rather than weight changes. For body copy alongside it, a restrained sans like Inter or Lato keeps the spotlight where it belongs.
