About the Facebook Logo

Facebook introduced its current logo and refreshed visual identity in September 2023. The familiar white lowercase “f” inside a blue circle was retained, but the symbol was redrawn with more balanced proportions and paired with a deeper, more saturated version of Facebook’s signature blue.

The refresh was developed by Facebook’s in-house design team, with VP and Head of Design Tagu Kato and Director of Design Dave N. presenting the new system. Alongside the icon, Facebook redrew its wordmark using the custom Facebook Sans typeface and expanded its color palette to improve consistency, contrast and accessibility across the app and marketing materials.

Although the 2023 change is subtle, the lowercase “f” has been central to Facebook’s identity for most of the platform’s history. The latest redesign deliberately preserves that recognition rather than introducing a new symbol, making it an evolution of one of the most recognizable social media icons in the world.
