The Equinix logo combines a red geometric symbol known as the “Fortress” with a widely spaced uppercase wordmark. Introduced in 2008 as part of a new global corporate identity, the symbol represents a fortress structure and was created to express Equinix’s role in protecting and connecting the information infrastructure used by its customers.

The 2008 identity marked the company’s tenth anniversary and replaced the original Equinix branding used during its first decade. Although the wider visual system has continued to evolve, the Fortress remains the core symbol of the brand and is still used as Equinix’s primary corporate logo today. No individual designer or external agency has been publicly credited for the 2008 logo.

Equinix was founded in Silicon Valley in 1998 by Jay Adelson and Al Avery, who had previously worked on the Palo Alto Internet Exchange. Their idea was to create neutral data centers where competing networks could connect and exchange traffic on equal terms. The company name reflects that original concept, combining “EQUality,” “Neutrality” and “Internet eXchange” to form Equinix.

The company was incorporated in Delaware on June 22, 1998 and became publicly traded on Nasdaq in August 2000. What began as a vendor-neutral interconnection business later developed into a global digital infrastructure company operating data centers and interconnection services for networks, cloud providers and enterprises around the world.
