DHL’s current logo was developed in 2002 as the company became part of Deutsche Post and was introduced globally with the new DHL brand identity in 2003. Branding studio Nitsch Design retained the recognizable DHL lettering and speed lines from the previous identity, but changed the mark to bright red on a yellow background.
The horizontal lines and italic lettering emphasize speed and movement, reflecting DHL’s focus on express delivery and global logistics. The red-and-yellow combination also connected DHL visually with Deutsche Post and has remained essentially unchanged for more than two decades.
The DHL name itself comes from the surnames of founders Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn, who started the company in San Francisco in 1969. Although DHL began as an American courier business, it is now a German-based global logistics brand headquartered in Bonn.
