The Cleveland Cavaliers introduced their current logo collection on June 2, 2022, ahead of the 2022–23 NBA season. The refreshed identity simplifies the team’s previous shield-based branding and uses a cleaner wine, gold and black palette, with navy removed entirely from the system.
The redesign was led by Cavaliers Creative Director Daniel Arsham, a Cleveland-born contemporary artist who joined the organization in 2020. Rather than creating an entirely new visual language, Arsham drew from several eras of Cavaliers history, reducing familiar symbols into simpler and more consistent forms while bringing back the brighter metallic-style gold associated with the team in the 1980s and 2003–10 era.
An interesting change is that the sword, one of the franchise’s most recognizable symbols since 2003, disappeared from the primary logo in 2022. The shield remained, but the overall identity became much more minimal, reflecting Arsham’s intention to create a modern mark that still felt familiar to longtime Cavaliers fans.
