The Bosch logo combines its bold red wordmark with one of the oldest continuously used symbols in industrial branding: an armature inside a circle. Bosch chief engineer Gottlob Honold created the original symbol in 1918, modeling it on the armature used in the company’s magneto ignition systems. The design was officially registered as a trademark in 1919.
The armature symbol was deliberately designed as a simple line mark that could be engraved even on small products and spare parts. While its proportions and presentation have evolved over the decades, the basic concept has remained part of Bosch’s identity for more than a century. The symbol and BOSCH wordmark were brought together into a consistent combined logo in 2004.
Since 2018, Bosch has further simplified its corporate design for digital applications, working with lead agency wirDesign and its internal corporate design team. The current logo retains the historic armature and red wordmark while using a cleaner, flatter presentation suited to screens, interfaces, packaging and modern brand communications.
