The BBC introduced its current corporate logo on October 20, 2021, giving the familiar three-block identity its first significant update in 24 years. The basic structure introduced in 1997 was retained, but the spacing between the blocks was increased, the letters became slightly smaller and Gill Sans was replaced by the BBC’s custom Reith typeface.

The 2021 identity was developed through a collaboration between the BBC’s in-house design teams and Wolff Olins. BBC Reith, the typeface used inside the updated blocks and throughout the wider identity, was created with type foundry Dalton Maag to give the broadcaster a consistent type system designed for both digital and broadcast use.

The three upright blocks themselves date back to the influential 1997 identity designed by Martin Lambie-Nairn. That redesign removed the angled boxes and colored underline of the previous logo, creating the simple black-and-white structure that still defines the BBC today. The 2021 refresh deliberately preserved that recognition rather than replacing it with an entirely new symbol.
