Bauhaus Composition Generator is a free Adobe Illustrator JSX script for creating editable Bauhaus-inspired vector compositions. It generates geometric layouts using primary forms such as circles, squares, triangles, rings, semi-circles and modular grid structures.
The script is designed as a creative starting point for posters, abstract backgrounds, editorial graphics, visual studies and experimental layout work. Instead of producing a flat image, it creates editable vector objects directly inside Illustrator, so you can move, recolor, resize and refine every part of the composition.
A quick note on Bauhaus design
Bauhaus was a highly influential German art and design school (1919–1933) that championed functional form, primary colors and geometric abstraction over ornamentation. Its visual language — circles, squares, triangles and modular grids in restrained color palettes — still shapes a huge amount of modern poster, editorial and brand design today. This script uses that same visual language as a generative starting point.
What does this Illustrator script create?
The generator builds abstract compositions inspired by Bauhaus form studies, primary geometry and modernist layout principles. You can choose between different composition modes, including primary form studies, asymmetric balance, grid-based layouts, circle and arc compositions, and mechanical stage-inspired arrangements.
Each result is generated on the active Illustrator artboard. The script does not create a new canvas or add unnecessary text to the final artwork. It focuses only on editable shapes, subtle texture, frame details and clean vector structure.
Works at any canvas size
The composition is generated relative to your active artboard, not a fixed size — so it adapts whether you’re working on a square social post, an A4 poster, or a custom canvas of any proportions. If no document is open when you run the script, it creates a 3000 × 3000px canvas automatically so you can start right away.
Every generation is unique
A randomized seed drives the layout logic, so clicking Generate again — even with the exact same composition, palette and density settings — produces a fresh variation. Keep generating until you land on a composition you like, then refine it by hand.

Density control
Alongside composition style and palette, you can choose a density level — Minimal, Balanced or Dense — which controls how many secondary shapes, accent elements and grain details are added on top of the core composition. Minimal keeps things quiet and poster-like; Dense fills the frame with more layered detail.
Color palette options
The script includes several Bauhaus-inspired palette systems. The Kandinsky Primary palette uses a more direct form-color relationship: circles are treated with blue, triangles with yellow, and squares or rectangles with red. The other four palettes — Muted Workshop, Red Black Cream, Blue Yellow Ochre and Neutral Study — apply their color sets more freely across shapes rather than following a fixed form-color rule, giving each generation a slightly different color rhythm.
Why use this script?
This script is useful when you want to quickly generate a geometric composition without starting from a blank artboard. It can be used for poster backgrounds, design experiments, visual references, social graphics, cover artwork and abstract vector layouts.
All generated elements remain editable in Illustrator. You can change colors, adjust the composition, remove details, scale the forms or combine the generated artwork with typography, texture and other design assets.
How to use
Open Adobe Illustrator and select the artboard where you want to generate the composition. Then go to File > Scripts > Other Script and choose the JSX file. Select a composition style, palette and density level, then click Generate. Don’t like the result? Click Generate again for a new variation.
