Baker McKenzie introduced its current logo as part of a global rebrand in December 2016. The change removed the ampersand from the firm’s former Baker & McKenzie name and introduced a compact two-line wordmark, with “Baker” positioned above “McKenzie” and a period completing the name.
The identity uses two closely related shades of red, giving the otherwise restrained typographic logo a recognizable visual signature. The redesign replaced a more complex earlier identity and created a simpler mark that could work consistently across offices, publications, digital platforms and signage worldwide. No individual designer or design agency has been reliably credited publicly for the current logo.
The firm traces its origins to Chicago, where Russell Baker and John McKenzie established the partnership in 1949 with an unusually international vision for the period. Its first operation outside the United States opened in Caracas in 1955, beginning the expansion that would make Baker McKenzie one of the earliest truly global law firms.
