The Allianz logo combines the company name with a circular emblem derived from the eagle that appeared in earlier versions of the brand identity. The modern symbol reduces the bird to three simple vertical elements inside a circle, creating a cleaner and more internationally adaptable interpretation of a mark that had been associated with Allianz for decades.
Allianz introduced the foundation of the current emblem in 1999 as part of a global brand modernization. The eagle was abstracted further, while the three elements inside the circle were used to represent the group’s core areas of insurance, retirement and financial planning, and savings and asset management. The redesign also gave the wordmark and emblem a cleaner appearance suited to a consistent international identity.
Allianz was founded in Berlin in 1890 by Carl Thieme and Wilhelm Finck. The company was entered into the Berlin Trade Registry on February 5 of that year and developed from a German casualty and transport insurer into a global insurance and asset management group. Its name comes from the German word “Allianz,” meaning “alliance.”
The blue wordmark and abstract eagle remain the core of the Allianz identity today. Although the surrounding brand system has evolved, the fundamental logo introduced at the end of the 1990s continues to provide visual continuity across Allianz companies, insurance products, sponsorships and digital services around the world.
