About Agency FB

Agency FB started with Agency Gothic, which Morris Fuller Benton drew for American Type Founders in 1932.

Font Bureau brought the design back in 1990. David Berlow added lowercase letters and expanded it beyond the original capitals-only version. The “FB” stands for Font Bureau.

The design later appeared in Microsoft Office installations, which helped make Agency FB familiar far beyond professional typography.

Design Notes

Agency FB is noticeably narrow and square. The strokes stay fairly even, while curved letters use restrained corners instead of soft, rounded shapes.

The squared shapes give Agency FB a technical feel without pushing it too far into sci-fi territory. Regular suits labels and compact headings, while Bold is better for posters, sports graphics and larger display text.

Monotoon KK, Bravo RG, Dense Regular and Bank Gothic are good alternatives if you like Agency FB’s narrow, squared and technical look.

Monotoon KK and Bravo RG lean more toward display use, while Dense Regular keeps the condensed structure cleaner and simpler. Bank Gothic is the closest classic reference, with the same kind of geometric, engineered character.
