Agency FB Font Free Download
Download Agency FB in TTF format — the squared, condensed sans-serif that has quietly become the default typeface of video game HUDs, sports jerseys, and anything that needs to look technical and precise. This package includes 2 font files: Regular and Bold.
Agency FB is a geometric sans-serif with narrow, boxy letterforms, monotone stroke widths, and sharp, slightly rounded corners. Its towering, compressed proportions make it a natural fit for game interfaces, esports branding, sports graphics, tech products, dashboards, posters, and any layout where strong typography has to fit into tight horizontal space.
From 1932 Art Deco to Modern Game HUDs
Agency FB’s story spans nearly a century. The original design, ATF Agency Gothic, was drawn by Morris Fuller Benton in 1932 for American Type Founders as a single, capitals-only titling face — narrow, squared, monotone letterforms whose towering height echoed the New York skyscrapers rising around the same time. Benton, one of the most prolific type designers in history, also created Franklin Gothic, News Gothic, and Bank Gothic, which Agency Gothic closely resembles in spirit.
The face sat largely dormant until 1990, when David Berlow of the newly founded Font Bureau saw potential in those squared capitals. He drew a complete lowercase, added a bold weight, and released the result as Font Bureau Agency — an immediate hit. Working with Tobias Frere-Jones and Jonathan Corum, Font Bureau then expanded the design into a full series of five weights across five widths between 1990 and 1995. The “FB” in the name stands simply for Font Bureau. Microsoft later bundled Agency FB with Office (2003 through 2010), which put the Regular and Bold cuts — the two included in this download — onto hundreds of millions of computers and cemented its ubiquity.
That ubiquity shows up in some unexpected places. Agency is the main typeface of the Crysis franchise and Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and it appears throughout sports: the Vancouver Canucks adopted a modified version for their uniforms in 2007, and Nike used the typeface on national ice hockey uniforms starting with the 2010 Winter Olympics. Few fonts move between military-shooter HUDs and Olympic jerseys so comfortably — that squared, engineered look is precisely what both worlds want.
Design Characteristics
Agency FB is dramatically square and narrow, with monotone strokes and corners that are sharp but very slightly rounded — where a softer design would curve, Agency uses straight or gently slanted lines instead. It’s built for display sizes and thrives in narrow spaces and short lines, where its compressed width lets headlines run large without breaking. The lowercase, being Berlow’s 1990 addition rather than part of Benton’s original, keeps the same boxy logic, which is why even mixed-case text in Agency FB reads as technical and engineered rather than conversational.
